Brand Protection in Online Marketplaces – Setting Up Your Defense For a Successful Offensive Strategy

Current trends show us that marketplaces are not only continuing to grow but are likely here to stay. Amazon’s 3P marketplace, as an example, is growing at a faster rate than its 1P business, now making up 56% of worldwide paid units on the marketplace and steadily climbing quarter-after-quarter. Marketplaces provide a retailer or platform with the ability to offer long-tail assortment while realizing a margin boost. This trend is pushing other large retailers like Walmart, Target, and Kroger to follow in Amazon’s footsteps and explore their own marketplace opportunities. In many cases, this growing opportunity is coming at a cost to branded manufacturers who are now competing against an increasing rate of unauthorized sellers offloading inventory via marketplaces. Many brands are working to take a defensive stance but lack a strategic and sustainable playbook, as well as the right resources to then maintain brand control in the ever-evolving world of marketplaces.

In this session, Retail Bloom will first coach brands through a proper and enforceable brand protection framework that can be used to play the right defense and regain brand control. They'll examine the effect of brand protection on brands’ advertising, BuyBox percentage, and overall marketplace presence. Then, Retail Bloom will take the game to the next level by providing brands an offensive strategy for realizing controlled retail growth through a branded manufacturer case study.

Retail Bloom

Launched in 2015, Retail Bloom stemmed from an organic outgrowth of our parent company, Aleva Stores. After seeing success in our own marketplace division, we quickly realized that our knowledge and expertise could be used to help other companies. With continued discussion and planning, leadership made the decision to branch out to provide marketplace advising and solutions for other businesses. Today, we are in the top 1% of sellers on Amazon, and we’ve grown to become a trusted marketplace service provider for numerous thriving brands. Our vision is to nurture our brand’s strategy and stay ahead of the game in the marketplace world.
